Polyelectrolyte is a strong polymer based coagulant specifically designed for partial or complete settling of organics, water soluble matters and suspended solids in the effluent or waste water through electro neutralization and bridging absorption. Bridging absorption occurs when long chain polymers get absorbed on the particles in a pattern such that it forms loops and tails extending some way in the solution. At this stage, particles are said to be restabilized. Absorbed amount must be optimum otherwise enough bridging contacts couldnt form. This consideration results in the necessity for an optimum dosage of the product for formation of bridging flocculation. Polyelectrolyte can be differentiated into 3 types based on the charge present on it. These are Anionic Polyelectrolyte, Cationic Polyelectrolyte and Non-Ionic Polyelectrolyte. Flocculation generally occurs due to these charges present on the particles. In practical cases, charges are present on the impurity particles and electrostatic interaction occurs between these particles and polyelectrolyte. Polyelectrolyte, offered by Chemtex Speciality Ltd. is a high performance flocculant, decolorant, and effective in algae growth inhibition and organics removal. It usually enjoys a small dosage but can be able to cause big flocs, rapid precipitation and low turbidity residues. It finds applications in variable sectors such as water treatment, textiles, cosmetics, mining, paper making, soil treatment, oil industries etc. |
